Information on the University's British Sign Language Implementation Group. The British Sign Language (Scotland) Act was passed in 2015. The Scottish Government has stated that it wants to make Scotland the best place in the world for British Sign Language (BSL) users to live, work and visit. BSL users includes deaf and deafblind people who use BSL. It also includes new users who may be hearing and who want to learn the language.The University's BSL Implementation Group commenced its work in 2017/18 and produced the University’s first BSL Plan which ran from 2018-2024, the first 6-year period. After the appointment of the BSL Development Officer in October 2019, the BSL Implementation Group was established to support implementation of activities within the BSL Plan by working with the BSL Development Officer. The University's second BSL Plan was developed in 2024 and will run until 2030, supported by the BSL Implementation Group.
