Summer School 2023

Summer School for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students

16/03/2023

Following on the successes of the University of Edinburgh's Summer Schools for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students which was delivered online in August 2021 and on campus in June 2022, we are delighted to announce the Summer School 2023 for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students is back for a third year on campus!  This will run from Tuesday 13th June to Thursday 15th June 2023.

This is a free event for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who are in S5 or S6 (Year 12/13 in England and Wales, Year 13/14 in Northern Ireland) at school and want to find out more about University life. Sessions in the summer school will cover topics such as applying to the university, writing a personal statement and how to apply for funding. There will also be information about different university services like disability service, accommodation, students' association and more.

The summer school will take place on campus at the University of Edinburgh, with accommodation and food provided throughout the duration of the event. BSL/English interpreters and notetakers will be provided, making the event fully accessible.

Here, some previous participants share their thoughts about what they enjoyed most about the Summer School:

"Meeting new deaf people across the UK, as I wouldn't have that opportunity if it wasn't for the event.

Engaging with people around me.

The information about all the help that will be available to me as a deaf student applying to university. As before this was very confusing and complicated to me.

The fact it was for Deaf people only. There's not many of those available.
